Keywords on deviations were built to be an important tool to help discover artwork. But as deviantART grows and strives to create new ways to discover great content, we’ve found that keywords as we currently use them have become underutilized. We think we can do better -- and can make a better experience for the community -- by making some changes.
In the coming month, keywords will transition into tags, and we’ll be improving the way they work. Tags will better surface artwork, allow deviants to form communities around topics, make it easier to find other artists and art appreciators, and increase discoverability.

It’s no secret that DeviantArt is a complicated site. Have you ever invited a friend to DeviantArt, only to have them ask a bunch of questions about how to get started? Or have you ever spoken with a fellow deviant about a feature you use daily, only to learn they didn't know that feature existed? It’s our aim to make a new deviant's first experience as inspiring and welcoming as those who have made this community their home. As mentioned in last week’s Beginnings of Site Simplification journal and the new DeviantArt Timeline, we’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how to make DeviantArt a simplified and unified experience — ultimately leading to increased participation from new and longtime deviants, adding more favourites, comments, and deviousness to the site as a whole.
Because DeviantArt has been around for nearly 15 years, we recognize that the site has accumulated a number of terms, words, and names for our various features and functions — some of which have multiple or similar meanings, and many of which increase confusion around

Top Community Feature Requests and Our Responses
In May, we introduced the DeviantArt Timeline as a method of communicating with deviants and providing transparency about what’s planned for our collective future. During the site simplification process that followed, we received a number of comments from deviants asking why we were working on the features presented on the Timeline instead of other things. Many of the features brought up in these comments are ones that have been requested for years. We want to be more transparent about these suggested features, why some of them haven’t happened yet, and why some of them may never happen.
These requests are from past Site Updates,

Thank you, Beta Testers!
We owe you an enormous debt of gratitude. Your input and feedback around our latest Beta releases -- Site Navigation, Activity Feed, and Status Updates -- has been incredibly valuable and because of it, we're able to make significant improvements to those features that will benefit every user of deviantART. We sincerely couldn't do it without you.
The information and data gathered from those Updates will be used to ensure a smooth site-wide launch, and we again thank you for all of your help. As sometimes happens in the Beta process, the Status Updates submitted in our test period need to be deleted to make some
The DeviantArt Mobile App: What's to Come by Heidi, journal
The DeviantArt Mobile App: What's to Come
With the newly introduced DeviantArt Mobile App for Android and iOS, our goal was to bring you a better, fresher, yet familiar DeviantArt experience — providing more power to do what you want and, more importantly, create deeper connections between your friends and favorite artists. We have plenty of plans for the future — including Notes and Push Notifications, which didn’t make it into the first version — and we want to hear what you’d like to see next to help shape the future of the app.

Welcome.
Many of you have been in this community for a long time, but whether you’ve just joined or you’ve been a member since day one, this is your first impression of the new DeviantArt.
Change is not something that we take lightly, because it affects our collective identity. It was important for us to define who we are and what we’re made of at our core before we changed anything. We all have our own understanding of what that means, but the process of getting that core story down on paper took almost a year.
The result is “Bleed and Breed Art.&

The deviantART community is always growing and changing. To keep the site fresh and relevant, we need to focus on what's important, otherwise we'll spread ourselves too thin.
Recently, we've been going through all of the site's features and settings to assess usage, traffic, community reception, and how the feature helps contribute to deviantART's goals.
dAmn It, the system where deviants can submit and vote on funny quotes from Chat (originally called "dAmn" or deviantART Messaging Network), is a feature that gets extremely low usage and traffic.
On November 30, 2013 dAmn It will be officially phased out. Until then, the feature has been
