Hello everyone! My deepest apologies it's taken me forever to get to properly write this Newsletter, but well, here it is now! :eager: Really am sorry to keep y'all waiting. ^^; ANYWAY, you better read this through carefully - there's lots of new information coming up, change suggestions we wish you to read and ponder about, and other important stuff! This NL will also sort of act as a little summary of the chatroom meeting we had on June 1, because I totally messed up my schedules and humbly admit I forgot to write that summary. :ninja:

(I pray Sta.sh Writer shall work properly tonight. :stare:)

ADMINISTRATION NEWS

* We have a new main admin, BitterBeanJuicer! :eager: Adam joined the Founder team officially during the chatroom meeting, but the decision for his promotion had been made before the meeting. Anyway, if you haven't already, go give him a tight hug!

* The administration team has finally come up with proper roles for themselves. The roles aren't strict, however, in case one of us simply cannot access the Group / Internet, so all of us need to be ready to take up the job of a possible absentee. In general, if you for example think our front page could be customised differently, you should first try to contact the corresponding admin.

The roles are as follows:
  • Farand - Directing. Helps the other main admins when they need it, and warns and removes inactive translators and proof-readers.
  • Daghrgenzeen - Outside Communication. Promotes the Group whenever and wherever possible to recruit more translators and proof-readers, posts in the forums, writes Newsletters and Announcements, reviews and deals with affiliation requests. Helps hosting chatroom events.
  • pwassonne - Inside Communication. Makes sure the translators and proof-readers know what they are doing, accepts and welcomes new contributors and teaches them how to start with their task; has the final say on who joins the Group as a translator / proof-reader (if pwassonne is absent, then Farand will oversee who gets to join).
  • Tahog - Hosting and Moderating. Hosts contests and chatroom events, moderates the chatroom with his bot, helps other admins whenever and with whatever they need.
  • BitterBeanJuicer - Group Technology. Looks after CSS codings of widgets and the layout of Back Room (Admin Area), helps with HTML etc. coding for translations, makes sure all our links on our profile pages and in the chatroom are up-to-date and working properly.
The roles will also be displayed in our FAQ entry, so you don't have to return to this Newsletter to check who you should contact.

CHANGE LOG

changes made since Newsletter 5

* For Contributors - the Admin Area is now called the 'Back Room'.

* Applications to join the Group as a translator/proof-reader are now to be made through GROUP NOTES only. So please do not comment on our profile page or the Journals to apply for a position - instead, send us a Note!

* Our front page has seen through slight editing again. For example, a list of links to languages with FAQ translations are now available again without having to click anything 'extra'!

* In the list of languages that have translated FAQs, there used to be Wikipedia links to articles with information about the language in question. These links have now been removed for the sake of clarity.

* Our chatroom now has a new privclass - Ex-Team. It is for ex-translators/-proof-readers who have for some reason decided to leave the Group but want to hang around in the chatroom. The privclass was created to honour their past contributions for the Group.

* Changes to faq are to be announced in the Back Room. Translators' first priority is to update their translations when they see such an announcement. (If the faq has had an update anywhere and none of the admins have yet realised, please send us a Note.)

changes still to be done

  • New Group icon/avatar and possibly a mascot as well. Please see these two polls if you haven't already: Do you want us to change our icon & Do you think we need a mascot. Regarding the icon/avatar, a contest is on its way! Those with access to our Back Room, please read this Announcement as well!
  • Internal links to our own FAQs.
  • Suggestions & Discussion forum to be created in the Back Room.
  • A new type of Check-In Point to ensure translation activity. The Check-In would happen only every 6 months (twice a year), starting from July, 2013.

DISCUSSION AND SUGGESTIONS

Please leave your comments of these changes below, or if you have further suggestions on how to improve the Group, please share with us! Your opinion matters. :eager:

Again, sorry for the belatedness. :ninja: Not a good start in my new role, eh. Anyway, thank you all who took part in the chatroom meeting - it was a real blast, and we've never had the room so full as it was on June 1! :eager: Seriously everyone, thank you! Hoping to see you (and me) more in the room in the future! :D

With best regards,
Laura / Daghrgenzeen.

Laura, you put this newsletter together by yourself, despite being very busy with your studies, and you didn't even require our help. Your letter is a brilliant achievement! And as always, it was a pleasure to read. In short, I fully (and blushingly) agree with *pwassonne: thank you for the hard work! :cookie:
